Study Abroad

In today's global economy, it is important for every student to be prepared to do work with people all over the globe. There are a number of opportunities for our undergraduate students to gain an understanding of what it means to live and work abroad and to develop multicultural skills through study abroad and advanced foreign language study.

The University of Iowa offers a wide selection of foreign languages, from Arabic to Swahili. Students who study a foreign language may earn extra college credit through the Foreign Language Incentive Program (FLIP). The Modern Language Association published
Language Study in the Age of Globalization: The College Experience to encourage students to study a foreign language.

Please review the following study abroad opportunities. Except where noted, more information on all of these programs is available from either the Office for Study Abroad, 1111 University Capitol Centre, or the Undergraduate Program Office, C140 Pappajohn Business Building.

Summer Internship Programs in London, Paris and Madrid

Students interested in gaining professional experience abroad may wish to consider an eight- or ten-week summer program in London, Paris or Madrid. Placements are determined by your interest, prior experience, studies, and professional plans. All internships are non-paid. Students will receive 6 s.h. of UI credit. Specific requirements for credit based on the requirements of student's academic major department.
